The National Fellowship of Direct Entry Midwives (NFDEM) Certified Direct Entry Midwife (CDEM) Proficiency Program is designed to guide you through this transformative journey, providing the hands-on experience and practical training needed to ensure you are fully prepared to serve families in out-of-hospital birth settings.

This program is rooted in the belief that the best midwives are those who are both knowledgeable and confident, who can offer a calm and supportive presence during birth, while also navigating the complexities of clinical decision-making. The CDEM Proficiency Program merges theoretical learning with real-world application, giving you the opportunity to develop and refine your skills through direct involvement in prenatal care, labor, delivery, and postpartum support.

As you move through the program’s three progressive tiers—Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced—you will experienced midwives who will help you develop the expertise and confidence needed to practice independently. With each step, you will take on increasing responsibility, from observing births to providing direct care to clients, allowing you to grow into the role of a professional midwife who can confidently meet the needs of families.
