CPM to CDEM
Bridge Program
Becoming a Certified Direct Entry Midwife (CDEM) is a significant milestone in a midwife’s professional journey, demonstrating a strong commitment to upholding the highest standards of care for families. The CDEM Bridge Program is designed specifically for out-of-hospital midwives who currently hold the Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) credential and who wish to apply to the NFDEM Bridge Program to achieve the CDEM credential.

Midwifery is both an art and a science, built upon a foundation of knowledge, skill, and deep compassion.
As a CPM, you have already shown dedication to education, growth, and the service of families. The process of becoming a CDEM through the bridge program ensures that you meet rigorous standards designed to guarantee safe, respectful, and evidence-informed care. The qualifications outlined here reflect a culmination of your clinical experience and education, forming a strong framework to protect the well-being of families and uphold the integrity of the midwifery profession.

Through the CDEM Bridge Program, we have carefully outlined the essential steps you’ll need to complete. We honor the spirit of independent practice while ensuring that every midwife who advances through this pathway is fully prepared for the responsibilities ahead.
This next phase of your journey calls for thoughtful reflection, comprehensive documentation, and submission of evidence of your qualifications. By fulfilling the bridge requirements, you affirm your knowledge, experience, and your ongoing commitment to professional excellence.

Midwifery is more than a career—it is a sacred trust with the families you serve. Earning the CDEM credential is both a testament to your readiness and an invitation to continue growing in this transformative field of care.
